HEALING THROUGH
cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a short-term, problem-focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior.

About CBT

CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person’s perception of events–rather than the events themselves–that determines how they will feel and act in response.

CBT can help with:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Panic attacks

  • Phobias

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD)

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Substance dependency

  • Persistent pain

  • Disordered eating

  • Sexual issues

  • Anger management issues

Most people with clearly defined behavioral and emotional concerns tend to reap the benefits of CBT. If any of the above issues resonate with you, I encourage you to try cognitive behavioral therapy.

With CBT, you’ll be able to adjust the thoughts that directly influence your emotions and behavior. This adjustment process is referred to as cognitive reconstructing, which happens through different CBT techniques.

Some CBT Techniques Are:

  • Journalling

  • Challenging beliefs

  • Relaxation

  • Meditation

  • Mindfulness

  • Social, physical, and thinking exercises

Cognitive behavioral therapy is much more than sitting and talking about whatever comes to mind during a session. CBT sessions are structured to ensure that the therapist and the person in treatment are focused on the different goals of each session, which in turn ensures that each and every session is productive.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Most people have experienced stress, anxiety, or mood swings at some point due to different life stressors. Most of the time people can bounce back, but if this has been a persistent feeling or it is interfering with your daily life activities, career, or relationships, it can be helpful to reach out for support. Therapy can be beneficial for most people who are feeling this way and those who struggle with mental health diagnoses.

  • We therapists understand it takes a lot of courage to start your process and that the initial meeting might cause some anxiety. We do our best to put you at ease and go at your pace. The first session is a chance to get to know each other and decide what issues you would like to address and prioritize in therapy.

  • Your initial session or intake session is 60 minutes long. All follow up sessions are 50 minutes. EAP sessions are 45 minutes.

  • Everyone has their own individual goals and needs in therapy. Your therapist and you will work together to create a treatment plan that is curated for your personal situation. There is no “right” length of time to be in therapy; everyone’s process has its own timetable.

  • Fully licensed therapist:
    Intake $150 for 60 minutes.
    Session $130 for 50 minutes.

    LPC Associates:
    Intake $80 for 60 minutes.
    Session $70 for 50 minutes.

    Therapist interns:
    Sessions $50 for 50 minutes

**Sliding fee scales can be discussed for each level of therapist.

  • While friends and family members are valuable members of your support network, they are typically emotionally involved in your situations. A therapist is an unbiased person who has knowledge based on theory and research to provide you with a safe space to dive deep into your thoughts/feelings and focus on you. There is no pressure to reciprocate the support or feel guilty or like a burden for focusing on you.

  • We are trained to provide talk therapy services. If you are looking for someone to prescribe medication, you will need to meet with a psychiatrist or your primary care provider. Your therapist will be able to provide a referral for these services should you need one.

  • Whitmire Counseling is in network with most commercial plans for Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Christus Health, Tricare East, and United Healthcare.

Depending on your current health insurance provider/plan or employee benefit plan, services may be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

    • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?

    • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?

    • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

    • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

  • Medication can be helpful for people with a variety of different mental health issues and symptoms, yet therapy is also needed for long-term results. Medications do not address the underlying thoughts and behaviors that are linked to these symptoms. Therapy can teach you coping mechanisms, help you navigate challenging situations, and break the cycle of thoughts and behaviors that keep you stuck.
