About WHITMIRE counseling + SuperviSion

I’M SARAH

I help children, teens, and adults in Houston, Texas reclaim joy and go from just surviving to thriving.

ARE YOU READY TO MAKE A CHANGE?

We specialize in working with clients who are not satisfied with their current situation, whether it be a relationship, job, or self-concept. If you feel like an outsider looking in on your own life, or if you’re questioning the path you’re on, there are steps you can take to reclaim joy.

BUSINESS
aside

I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD back when schools used non-inclusive special education. My parents were able to get me to a specialized school and having that privilege changed my life. This experience prompted me to build a practice that gives both adolescents and adults the support they need to thrive.

Over the years, I have discovered that true happiness comes from within, and that takes work—hard work—but it is worth it. I’m deeply familiar with how to do that work and I want to help you on your journey, too.

WHAT TO EXPECT.

A look into my personalized approach to helping clients heal

I believe in meeting each client where they’re at. After an initial intake, we mutually decide what areas to work on. Usually, we’ll start by learning age-appropriate coping skills to help you find relief from anxiety and discomfort.

Then, we’ll explore any underlying issues and discover which core beliefs are keeping you stuck. Together, we’ll discover how to challenge them and help you arrive at beliefs that better serve you.

Sometimes, we need to look back at some childhood relationships to understand the dynamics that influence current behaviors, emotions, and other patterns.

We’ll use therapeutic techniques like art therapy, attachment theory, and EMDR to process trauma and better understand how it affects you in your day-to-day life.

In addition to these modalities, we’ll also explore lifestyle choices like exercise, sleep hygiene, and more that can help to enhance your healing process.

With this combination of deep therapy work, lifestyle changes, and learning new coping skills, I believe everyone can find relief. It takes time to retrain our brains to find a “new normal,” but with time and practice, it’s entirely possible.

Start Your Healing Journey Today

Engaging in therapy is an investment in yourself. It isn’t a magic pill or a quick fix but rather a journey of growth, introspection, self-discovery, and finding the answers within yourself, even if you don't see them yet. It is also about exploring what you're experiencing, where you want to go, and building the stepping-stones to get there. Above all and most importantly, doing so within a validating, collaborative and judgment-free environment.
